Alright here is a step by step on how to put mtm2 onto a computer with vista. I myself have used it and David (skeletonking), for both of us it has worked. So here are the steps:
Step 1-
Well obviously insert the cd into the cd drive ya goof. Whats that? the cd wont autorun? Welp thats normal....

Step 2-
Go to My Computer, and look for the disk drive with the mtm2 cd in it. Right click on the mtm2 logo and scroll down to OPEN and click on it. there is a pic to help you incase you are a complete computer illiterate person.

Step 3-
Now you should see all the files that are on the cd (stock game pods etc.) But what we are looking for is the SETUP file, once you find it, right click on it and go to properties.

Step 4-
Now this step is the big one, do this correctly and you will be able to install the game onto Vista no issues. So there should be a little window that pops up, click on the middle tab that says COMPATIBILITY, now check off the box that says "Run this program in compatibility mode for" and click on the little scroller under it and go down to Windows XP (Service Pack 2). Now go down to APPLY, and then click on OKAY......DO NOT CHECK OFF ANY OTHER BOXES!!! THIS MIGHT CAUSE THE GAME NOT TO LOAD CORRECTLY!!!!

Step 5-
Now go all the way back to the menu that has you computer drives (basically the My Computer menu) and double click on the disk drive with mtm2 in it and it should just boot right up.

And with that, the conclusion to how make mtm2 work on vista, its honestly not that hard and hopefully this wont turn people off to Vista (though there are several other reasons to be lol). See you out on the dirt

*UPDATE 1*
this helps with podding issues aswell as some connection issues that some vista users have had and I helped resolve. follow method #4.
http://www.petri.co.il/disable_uac_in_windows_vista.htm
also be sure to turn off any firewalls or anything pertaining to virus protection programs about blocking attacks to your computer. if for some reason none of these work its probably more then likely a router issue. seeing as I seem to be the go to guy for vista or mtm2 connection issues you can feel free to contact me on AIM for personal help if you are still having trouble.

*UPDATE 2*
it seems that 64 bit vista machines cant follow this tut but I have been told that running mtm2 in windows98/me compatibilty and run in 256 colors will let it run

cheers
Sean

if you go into control panel, click on security, then on security center. scroll down to other security settings and turn off user account controls so the computer doesnt ask you to okay something everytime you go to do something

Mods, this needs to be stickied, especially since my hard drive could fail at any moment, and I'll need a new lappy, which means *shudder* I'll have to upgrade to Vista...

I have officially moved over to the dark side, and got a new laptop as an early Christmas present. All of my MTM2 stuff is still on my old laptop, though, so I'll be on the old one for SPHRA Sunday.
